Taste some of the best chili in town at CVD’s Conejo Desperados booth at the Chili Cook-Off and Classic Car Show this Sunday, April 28 at Conejo Creek Park South in Thousand Oaks (home of CVD). CVD’s ace chili chef Tom Rumbaugh will whip up chili for the judges, while Ernie Escoto will prepare our “People’s Choice” chili.

Make sure you stop by our booth for a taste. We’ll also have salsa and hot sauce samples.

The event is sponsored by the Thousand Oaks Rotary Club and runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The annual event features a Regional Chili Cook Off, sanctioned by the International Chili Society, plus a Classic Car Show with autos from car clubs, collectors and celebrities. For the second year, Reeds Furniture is sponsoring a Home Emporium at Conejo Valley Days (CVD). The Emporium, held in a 30′ x 100′ tent at CVD, will be filled with home furnishings and indoor and outdoor products. Designs for sale include western and Victorian styles, modern reclaimed furniture, steampunk and CVD signage.

Reeds will also hold two auctions during CVD. Furniture and décor items will be auctioned at 2:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5. The furniture will be on display prior to the auction and those interested in participating can register by 1:30 p.m. each day at the Home Emporium tent.

Reeds Furniture has been active in the Conejo Valley since 1960 and has been a long-time supporter of Conejo Valley Days.

To get into the western spirit, cowboy hats, boots and other western gear will be available for sale prior to CVD at Reeds Furniture in Agoura Hills (28401 Canwood Street) and at the Emporium during CVD.

The Emporium will also have a photo booth area complete with western and Victorian style clothing. Festival goers can put on old fashioned clothes and have their picture taken.

Remember:  CVD is May 2 through May 5 at Conejo Creek Park South (Janss Rd. exit off the 23 Freeway) in Thousand Oaks!

Banyan Elementary School PTA is one of many schools taking part in the Conejo Valley Days ride wristband fundraiser. For every wristband sold online, the school will receive $2. Sponsored by Zonta Club of the Conejo Valley for over 30 years, Special Kids Day brings more than 200 kids and an equal number of volunteers to the CVD site (23 Freeway at Janss Rd. exit). Kids go on rides, play games and enjoy a hamburger lunch provided by the Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge. The event is not open to the public.

The kids range in age from preschool through fifth grade and all are from the Conejo Valley Unified School District. Zonta Club arranges for buses to transport the children to and from schools to CVD.

“Volunteers are what help make the day a wonderful experience for the children,” says Mary Lou Miller, Zonta’s Special Kids Day coordinator. “We are grateful for everyone who takes time away from work or school to help. Some have been volunteering for years. We can’t thank them enough.”

Volunteers must be 16 years or older. Individuals, groups and businesses can also help by making a donation to help offset costs.”

Students from CLU will be selling raffle tickets to an upcoming Justin Bieber concert in L.A. Proceeds from the raffle will support Special Olympics in Ventura County.  Raffle tickets are only $10. Seats are in the VIP section!

For the second year, teens will have more to do at Conejo Valley Days (CVD) than just go on carnival rides. CVD, which takes place May 2 through 5 at Conejo Creek Park South in Thousand Oaks, will host Electric Nights with DJs, stage and light show.

“We received a lot of positive feedback last year from teens and their parents when we held our first EDM experience,” says David Sanford, president of CVD’s youth committee. “This year will be even better.”

Electric Nights will be held Friday and Saturday, May 3 and May 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. each night  and feature 12 different DJs. “Many of the DJs are locals like Justin Johnson and Jeremy Foster, some are from Los Angeles,” says Sanford. “The setting will be crazy. We’ll have over 60 LED lights on the stage and on the trusses.”

Electric Nights is included with CVD admission. “We also plan to have DJs at the free motocross exhibitions that are taking place at CVD,” says Sanford.

Vendor applications are now available for the 57th annual Conejo Valley Days (CVD) being held May 2 through 5 at Conejo Creek Park South (Janss Rd./23 Freeway) in Thousand Oaks. Exhibitor applications are also being accepted for the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Expo taking place during CVD.

“Regular CVD vendors can sign up to exhibit for the entire four days of CVD. Vendor booths will be in two enclosed big top tents,” says Mary-Catherine McBride, CVD general co-chair. “This is a great opportunity to reach a large number of local consumers. Half of those who attend CVD each year are adults.”

The two-day chamber business expo will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5 from noon to 6:00 p.m. in two enclosed tents at CVD. Booths are available for chamber members only. Twenty-five percent of the booth fee will be donated to the chamber. “This is a chamber fundraiser as well as an excellent way to tell the community about your product or service,” says Jill Lederer, chamber president/CEO. “We’re expecting the expo booths to sell out quickly.”

As part of the business expo booth package, a company listing and link will be posted on the CVD website.

All vendors and expo exhibitors are asked to dress in western gear and decorate their booth in western décor in keeping with CVD’s western roots.

“We’re adding a western-style saloon to CVD that will feature dancers, singers and comedians,” says McBride. “We’re also adding more features to our western Main Street including a fundraising ‘jail.’

Carnival rides, motocross exhibitions, a dupstep stage and games will all be part of the exciting atmosphere. For the second year, Reeds Furniture will take over two large tents and fill them with furniture, accessories and CVD collectibles.”

CVD hours are Thursday, May 2, 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 5:00 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, May 4, noon to midnight and Sunday, May 5, noon to 8:00 p.m.
